Do you already take payments over the phone or counter did you know that in most cases you would need to upgrade this merchant account to allow for accepting e-payments  ?

What are the rate charges , every bank charges different amounts depending on the amount you expect to take through online payments a rough example would be PayPal:

PayPals Website Payments standard ( this redirect your customers to the PayPal website to take the payment then back to you're website when completed ) :

• no monthly fee,
• and it's free to open your PayPal Business Account.
• Just a transaction fee of between 1.4%-3.4% + 20p on each payment 

PayPal's Website Payments Standard( this allows users to make payments without leaving your website )

• Gateway Fees     None
• Transaction Fees     1.4-3.4%+20p 

A lot of merchant accounts may also hold money ( like a security deposit for you customers ) for up to 6 months please check about this when applying for the account.
